A little knowledge makes it easier to choose a piece you will enjoy living with.
01 / IDENTITY
Look beyond the species.
Start with the specimen number, photographs and stated materials. A taxidermy specimen and a reproduction can depict the same animal while being very different objects. Read the composition information and condition notes for the individual piece.
Ask for additional views of the back, base and surface details when they will help you decide. A photograph shows a particular view; it cannot establish the full condition or provenance of a piece on its own.
02 / THE STORE’S GRADING SYSTEM
Quality, explained.
The Taxidermy Store assigns a grade based on the piece’s overall characteristics. The grade supports the description; it does not replace a close look at condition or represent an independent certification.
Elite™
Superior quality and fine craftsmanship; only slight natural imperfections are expected.
Premier™
Very high quality, strong detail and impressive attributes, allowing a few natural imperfections.
Excellent™
Above-average quality and careful detail. Small natural scars or blemishes may be present.
Nice™
Good everyday display quality, with standard attributes and some visible natural marks.
Fair™
More noticeable flaws or below-average attributes, while retaining overall integrity and craftsmanship.
Vintage™
A vintage or retro style of workmanship. Appearance and condition vary; age does not automatically mean poor quality.
03 / DISPLAY
Measure the whole space.
Compare height, width and depth with the full space available, including nearby furniture, doorways and walking routes. Antlers, tails and bases can extend well beyond the body. Give the silhouette room to breathe.
Use the listed dimensions and product PDF as planning aids. Choose fixing hardware suitable for the piece, wall construction and load. A fit check is not a structural assessment.
04 / CARE
Keep the details in view.
Choose an indoor position away from direct sun, heat sources and damp conditions. Ask for material-specific cleaning advice before using liquid cleaners or treating hair, feathers, painted surfaces or older materials.
For damage, pests or uncertain materials, contact a qualified taxidermist or conservator before attempting a repair.
